Senior High Voltage Systems Engineer (all genders)

Permanent employee, Full-time · Munich

Your mission
As a Senior High Voltage Systems Engineer (all genders), you will significantly contribute to the design, development, and certification of the aircraft's high voltage systems. You will work as part of a multi-functional team, reporting to the Head of Propulsion, and covering HV system integration, including battery systems, power electronics, HV EWIS, and associated sub-systems. Your daily tasks will include a variety of technical activities for the propulsion team. Every day will bring new challenges, and you will be given a healthy amount of responsibility and autonomy, always supported by the team.

Your Day-to-Day:
  • Proactively lead and execute technical tasks within the propulsion department for the Microliner development and certification, from capturing technical requirements to demonstrating compliance.
  • Contribute significantly to the definition, architecture, sizing, specification, development, and integration of the high voltage distribution system in the aircraft, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards.
  • Develop physical and functional interfaces (ICDs) between the high voltage system and the aircraft structure and related systems and disciplines.
  • Coordinate HV system safety analysis and conduct system engineering tasks.
  • Planning, coordinating and performing HV system validation and verification activities as per aerospace standards such as ARP4754.
  • Develop and integrate the high voltage system digital mock-up (DMU) with the aircraft 3D model.
  • Select, interact with, and manage suppliers, taking responsibility for work packages related to the development and integration of HV components such as voltage converters, contactors, fuses, EWIS, and grounding systems.
  • Lead the installation and integration of HV systems on an aircraft level.
  • Coordinate and implement HV EWIS, as per applicable safety and installation EWIS requirements.
  • Actively participate in supplier Technical Review Meetings (TRM) and Program Review Meetings (PRM) as well as major program milestones such as PDR, CDR, First Flight, and Type Certification.
  • Define and plan HV equipment qualification campaigns together with suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Support HV system hardware and software testing campaigns, from component test benches to full-scale prototypes, and aircraft ground and flight test campaigns.
  • Provide full engineering support for prototype final assembly and integration ground tests.
  • Ensure adherence to all engineering processes and standards and participate in design reviews to meet development and certification goals.
Your profile
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience of at least 5 years in electrical systems design and integration within an aerospace OEM. Experience with electric aircraft is a plus, including power electronics, energy storage and electric propulsion systems.
  • Proficiency in high voltage (up to 1500 VDC) system design and analysis, including particular risks such as arc faults, electric shock, inductive behaviourHV insulation failures (i.e. arcing, partial discharge, insulation breakdown, corona effect), and EWIS process implementation.
  • Practical experience with aircraft certification process (preferably EASA/FAA Part 23 or 25).
  • Experience working in an EASA Part 21J Design Organization, or international equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of systems engineering and safety analyses per aerospace standards such as ARP4754 and ARP4761. Proficiency on airborne hardware and software qualification per ED-12/ED-80 (DO-178/DO-254) is a plus.
  • Experience with electrical load analysis (ELA), and electrical system simulation.
  • Assertive and clear communication skills, results-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Ability to interact efficiently with customers, authorities, suppliers, and internal organizational units.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, manage, and execute multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Skilled in navigating early design uncertainties and driving progress through proactive proposals and collaborative idea sharing.
  • Positive and optimistic attitude, with a collaborative approach in a multicultural team, adhering to company rules and values.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in another European language is a plus.

About us
VÆRIDION is a fast-growing deep tech start-up based in Munich, Germany. Since the restrictions by law on CO2 emissions for domestic and short-haul air travel will stimulate Green Regional Air Mobility, we believe it's our mission to provide an aircraft for Zero emission regional flights.
At VÆRIDION our goal is to develop, build and certify a full electric microliner carrying up to 9 passengers for Short-Haul and Regional Air Mobility by 2030. A full electric microliner is cleaner and cheaper to operate than other aeroplanes in its class, it  provides a better travel experience door to door up to 500 km. We offer new optimized design based on proven principles, around  proven and available technology in electric motors and batteries, that brings lowest risk and shortest route to certification.
