Mechanical Systems Engineer (all genders)

Permanent employee, Full-time · Munich, Delft

Your mission
We are looking for a Mechanical Systems Engineer (all genders) to help us design and develop the mechanical systems on board of our fully battery-powered electric aircraft. You will contribute on the definition of the main mechanical systems on the aircraft, such as the environmental control system and landing gear, flight controls, among others. Your work will involve performing activities spanning the entire system development lifecycle, starting with system level requirements including certification, functionality and safety aspects, detailed preliminary design, supplier involvement, testing and system/aircraft certification. You will work with the various aircraft departments, such as structures, overall aircraft design and flight physics teams, for optimal system development and integration and will be a key player in the detailed definition of the overall aircraft.
Your Day-to-Day
  • Define and derive systems level requirements for the mechanical systems on board of the aircraft, based on TLARs, aircraft level requirements and CS-23 regulation.
  • Perform system level functional analysis (FAD), with main focus on the functional decomposition of the mechanical systems and identification of the interfaces.
  • Contribute to the detailed definition and development of the mechanical systems on board of the aircraft, with the main focus on environmental control system (ECS), landing gear and flight controls, to enable to reach the level of maturity established at each aircraft design phase.
  • Collaborate with partners and suppliers to define mechanical systems, providing a direct interface.
  • Support the definition of system level functional hazard assessment (FHA) for the mechanical system in order to ensure compliance with safety according to ARP4754, ARP4761 and performance standards.
  • Define systems physical interfaces to support the systems installation activities with the other disciplines.
Your profile
  • Engineering degree in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent (e.g., Mechanical Engineering).
  • 5+ years of experience in the aerospace sector, preferably in aircraft systems.
  • Experience with the systems engineering approach, including system requirements definition and systems functional decomposition.
  • Knowledge and experience on mechanical aircraft systems design, preferably on ECS, landing gear, and flight controls systems.
  • Experience with the full development lifecycle from conceptual design through to certification (EASA/FAA Part 23 or 25).
  • Background in (hybrid-) electric aviation and strong understanding of aircraft systems is a Plus.
  • Proficiency coordinating activities of engineers internally and in partner supplier companies.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English, other European language would be a plus.
  • Proactive, positive thinking, “Can do” attitude and working nature characterized by self-initiative, solution orientation, eagerness to learn, grow and apply new skills.
  • Passioned about aviation and electrification of aviation industry.
Why us?
  • Be part of an ambitious team determined to shape the future of aviation.
  • Enjoy flexible working hours: we believe in ownership and trust.
  • Subsidized EGYM Wellpass membership: your (mental) health is important for us.

About us
VÆRIDION is a fast-growing deep tech start-up based in Munich, Germany. Since the restrictions by law on CO2 emissions for domestic and short-haul air travel will stimulate Green Regional Air Mobility, we believe it's our mission to provide an aircraft for Zero emission regional flights.
At VÆRIDION our goal is to develop, build and certify a full electric microliner carrying up to 9 passengers for Short-Haul and Regional Air Mobility by 2030. A full electric microliner is cleaner and cheaper to operate than other aeroplanes in its class, it  provides a better travel experience door to door up to 500 km. We offer new optimized design based on proven principles, around  proven and available technology in electric motors and batteries, that brings lowest risk and shortest route to certification.
